Right between Bald Head Island and Wrightsville Beach lies Carolina Beach. Carolina Beach, NC gives anglers quick access to everything from quiet marsh systems to the Atlantic Ocean. Our Carolina Beach fishing charters are designed to put you in the best possible position to catch fish year-round, whether you’re a seasoned angler or stepping on a boat for the first time.
One of the biggest advantages of fishing out of this area is the easy access to the mid–Cape Fear River, a somewhat overlooked but incredibly productive fishery at times. With attributes like deep channels, oyster structure, and steady tidal movement, the Cape Fear River supports good opportunities for red drum, speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead, and flounder. Many visitors never explore this stretch of water—but it consistently produces some of our best fishing we have in the area.
Another great advantage to fishing out of Carolina Beach is the proximity to Masenboro Island. Masenboro is a nature preserve barrier island that stretches 8.5 miles long and is home to some excellent fishing as well. The Island is undeveloped and not surprisingly so the fish seem to like it there. Whether you want to target red drum on top waters or fish for Speckled Trout in the Fall or maybe even Falsee Albacore on fly in the ocean, Masenboro Island has just about every species we target either on the marsh side of the island or the ocean side.
Flounder fishing out of Carolina Beach is particularly noteworthy. The area is home to the North Carolina state-record flounder that weighed just over 20 pounds! While that is very much not the norm it is a testament to Carolina Beach and the habitat it offers for flounder. From the creeks and marshes to the river ledges and nearshore reefs, the opportunities for landing trophy-sized flatfish are very good. While NC flounder fishing has changed over the years we do target them when the season arises.
